Cormorant Day at Newport Lake, at least it was for me! We had our coffee this morning at the Newport Lake. It was a overcast morning with fog lifting off the lake. Out in the middle were tiny black specks. Other black spots were scattered about. With binoculars I was able to figure out the group of black specks were double-crested cormorants. I was surprised to see so many grouped closely together, 30-40 of them. The other dark spots were common loons, in all we counted 12. The loons were spread out and actively diving.
My photos for today’s post were all taken handheld at 600mm. They also were cropped quite a bit and lighten in Lightroom.
It was such a treat to see so many cormorants gathered together. They drifted about keeping close.
