Daily Photo 153 – Loons fishing in the rain! Gray skies, rain and a coffee stop this morning brought us some fishing entertainment! Early for my appointment we pulled over in Newport at Lake Seabasticook.
First thing we saw were two loons not far off shore, shortly after another appeared to our right. Before leaving we counted five more loons in the distance, I’d never seen so many loons in one area before. I kept looking for an adult with babies but that didn’t happen today.
Please excuse the poor quality of today’s photos, weather conditions were not ideal but I did want to share with you what we saw this morning. In this first photo I had just missed out stretched wings of this loon that was fairly close to shore, I’d been watching another off to the right!

We had the opportunity to watch as this one Loon catch a fish and then struggled with it. He ended up dropping it, not sure if on purpose or just lost hold of it. Sad that after all its hard work it wasn’t rewarded with a meal.
I’m still amazed we saw eight total loons at this one lake and who knows the lake is certainly big enough there could have been more!
