Daily Photo 308 – Canada Geese. Today’s photo was taken yesterday at the Newport beach area. About the lake were twenty plus Canada geese, a group of 25 or so Ruddy Ducks, a small group of Hooded Mergansers and the normal sea gulls. The ducks were out quite a ways so no photos this time.
Being my first year observing the Ruddy ducks, I’ve wondered why they just float around with their heads tucked in. A check at the All About Birds site gave me my answer. “Ruddy Ducks dive to feed on aquatic invertebrates, especially midge larvae. They feed most actively at night, so you’ll often see Ruddy Ducks sleeping during the day, head tucked under a wing and tail cocked up.”
Thank you for stopping by. Your comments are always welcome!
